About Me - Anjali Venkat
I
am primarily self taught with a passion for all types of art and
craft. Anjali Design was born when kind friends and family appreciated my creations and grew through their word of mouth.
I started with creating stationery for a major bookstore and even now enjoy designing and creating invitations, cards and gift wrappings in novel ways.
While based in Chennai in 1990, I learnt the traditional South Indian art of Tanjore painting . Tussars came about while dabbling with painting on fabric.
Stained Glass has fascinated me ever since I was ten years old – with my first encounter with a kaleidoscope! This has remained with me and has grown to be the passion that is AnjaliDesign.
I like to travel and wherever I go, I try to learn some form of art or the other through workshops. For instance, I learnt Italian techniques of working with glass when I visited Europe, art pieces with fused glass at the Corning Museum of Glass in New York, and have attended workshops in Perth, Australia.
I
like experimenting with and mixing different materials for my
creations. For example, I use antique ‘Chettinad’ wooden pieces
as lamp bases for my stained glass lamp shades. I enjoy giving a
new twist to everyday ordinary items, such as, creating elegant
candle shelters with glass bangles or slumping used recyclable
bottles into trendy serving dishes.
I like doing small intricate work and love wearing sparkling art glass as jewelry. In my collection Wearable Art, I have used traditional glass working methods and materials to create fine and exclusive pieces for personal adornment.
People from different walks of life in different parts of the world (from Europe to the North American continent, besides from all over India), have bought my work of art to beautify themselves and their homes.
Please feel free to browse through my gallery of work. This is just a small representation of my work. I keep certain items ready in stock and am open to custom-designing and fabrication of pieces. If you don't find what you are looking for, email me at anjalidesign@hotmail.com.
Visit

new
inspirations.
